Trat’s Governor, Chamnanwit Terat has said that local authorities in the province and the private sector are pushing for the upgrade of two border passes into permanent border passes.
The first is the Ban Tha Sen border pass to link the province with Cambodia’s Pursat province.
The second is the Ban Muang temporary border pass in Bo Rai district to turn it into a permanent border pass that links Trat with Battambang in Cambodia.
Trat’s Ban Hat Lek permanent border pass which links the province with Cambodia’s Koh Kong is expected to see two-way border trade worth 32.33 billion baht this year, an increase from 31.2 billion last year.
In the first nine months, it recorded two-way border trade worth 28 billion baht.
Trat Governor Mr Chamnanwit said that the province after being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and seeing only 1.4 percent economic growth last year, is witnessing the economy picking up this year and expects to register 4.4 percent growth.
Trat’s economy is made up of the agricultural sector, comprising 47 percent, tourism and service sector at 44 percent and industrial sector six percent and all sectors showing signs of picking up.
