PHNOM PENH, The Royal Government has released more than $ 100 million budget in aiding the energy sector and implementing the 2019 housing electricity-cost reduction for low-income and middle-income family.
By the government plan 2019-2020, over the 2.5 million homes which are 96 per cents of the total electricity consumer, 2.6 million homes will receive a lower tariff, said the Minister of the ministry of mines and energy Mr. Suy Sem.
He stated that the electricity consumed in January 2019 will be applying the new tariff plan with their newest bill late in January.
Minister Mr. Suy Sem has explained that the electricity cost is higher than the set price base on the rural business principle, but the government under the Rural Electrification Fund. (REF) of the Electricité Du Cambodge(EDC) has reduced the fees. REF has subsidized and paid a partial fee intend to help the low-income family.
By the planning, in 2019 tariff will be only 380 riel/kw (480 riel/kw in 2018) between 1 to 10 kWh per month consume, in 2019 & 2020 tariff will be 480 riel/kw (610 riel/kw in 2018) between 11 to 50 kWh per month and 610 riel/kw in 2019 &2020 (770 riel/kw in 2018) between 51 to 200 kWh per month.
Since 2015 the royal government has successful implemented its plan to cut the electricity tariff. Areas with the third supplier who buy electricity from the national network have been also gradually decreasing their tariff. It is now becoming so strongly support from low-income people across the country.
