Government needs $ 9.27 billion to invest in infrastructure over next three years

Phnom Penh: As a priority plan, Cambodian government will continue to invest in infrastructure, despite Covid-19 crisis, in which large investments are made to serve the public. In the next three years, 2022 to 2024, the development of public construction is expected to require an investment of 9.27 billion US dollars.

According to the report of the Ministry of Planning on the three-year rolling public investment program 2022-2024, construction will require a total investment of 9,270 million US dollars, of which 2022 need US $ 2.864 million, in 2023 needs US $ 3.152 million and 2024 is expected to need up to US $ 3.255 million.

The report also shows that the general industries, including mining, manufacturing, electricity, gas, water, and construction, will require $ 17.55 billion in investment for the three years from 2022 to 2024.

In this group, the manufacturing sub-sector will need the largest share of investment up to US $ 6.018 million and the construction sub-sector needs the second largest share of investment of 9.27 billion US dollars, and the sub-sector of electricity, gas and water needs nearly 2 billion US dollars.

According to the report, in the revenue collection efforts of the Royal Government, there is no policy to create new taxes or increase taxes for citizens and businesspeople.

The Royal Government has focused on strengthening the implementation of existing policies and laws through the implementation of strict and drastic measures, both administrative and policy measures, for the short, medium, and long term, promoting a culture of paying taxes, cracking down on smuggling and all forms of tax evasion, as well as improving governance in the collection of revenue, both in the customs, tax, and non-tax sectors.
