Phnom Penh, With the high approval of the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Mekong-Lancang Cross-Border Caravan Tour” celebrating the “Cambodia-China Tourism Year.”.
The event aims to promote Cambodia’s tourism potential to countries in the Mekong region, strengthen tourism relations and connectivity between Cambodia and China, and further promote people-to-people exchanges and tourism cooperation within the Greater Mekong Subregion. The ceremony was attended by Lok Chumteav Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA), leaders of the Ministry of Tourism, national and international caravan delegates, as well as more than 150 national and international distinguished guests at the Ministry of Tourism headquarters.
On this occasion, H.E. the Minister emphasized that this event is an important activity celebrating the “Cambodia-China Tourism Year” and the 68th anniversary of the ironclad friendship between Cambodia and China. It also serves to further strengthen the building of the Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era, with high quality, high level, and high standards throughout all seasons.
H.E. the Minister also highlighted that tourism, recognized as “green gold,” is a priority sector for promoting economic and social growth under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia, previously led by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and continued by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
At the same time, H.E. the Minister called on all caravan delegates to serve as goodwill ambassadors in promoting the true political and social situation of Cambodia as a safe, friendly, hospitable, and warmly welcoming tourism destination. He also encouraged them to promote Cambodia’s attractive tourism potential, favorable investment opportunities, rich culture, and traditions to people and international tourists along their journey.
It should also be noted that the “Mekong-Lancang Cross-Border Caravan Tour” will last for 23 days, from May 18, 2026 to June 9, 2026. The caravan will depart from Phnom Penh and travel to the Tropang Kreal International Border Checkpoint in Stung Treng Province, passing through the Lao People’s Democratic Republic before continuing to Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China from May 18 to May 30, 2026. On May 31, 2026, the caravan will depart from Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China, and return to the Kingdom of Cambodia on June 9, 2026.
