Cambodia and WIPO Sign MoU on the Establishment of an Intellectual Property Business Center

Switzerland): On the morning of Monday, 6 July 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland, Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), to discuss strengthening cooperation in developing Cambodia’s intellectual property (IP) ecosystem and promoting innovation-driven economic development.

 

To begin, Her Excellency Minister expressed her appreciation to the World Intellectual Property Organization for its continued partnership and technical assistance in supporting the development of Cambodia’s intellectual property ecosystem. Her Excellency Minister also highlighted the significant progress achieved through WIPO’s support in strengthening IP administration, advancing digital transformation, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through intellectual property initiatives.

Both sides also discussed the successful implementation of the Appropriate Technology Project and the IP for Tourism Project in Cambodia. They further reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation and ensuring that intellectual property continues to serve as a catalyst for innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development in Cambodia.

 

On this occasion, Her Excellency Minister of Commerce and the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of an Intellectual Property Business Center (IPBC) to Support the Private Sector in Enhancing Awareness of the Benefits of Intellectual Property. Notably, Cambodia is the first Least Developed Country (LDC) to sign such a Memorandum of Understanding with WIPO.
