Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd would source it from offshore wind power plants and potentially other sources developed by Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation, a release from the Singapore Energy Market Authority said Tuesday.

The electricity will be transmitted from Vietnam to Singapore through new subsea cables that will run a distance of around 1,000km.The imports from Vietnam could potentially constitute 10% of Singapore’s requirements, The Straits Times newspaper reported. Sembcorp is a subsidiary of energy firm Sembcorp Industries. Vietnam and Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding for energy cooperation in October last year.

In 2021 Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong announced plans to import up to 4 GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035. Approvals have also been given for importing 2 GW from Indonesia and 1 GW from Cambodia. Source: Vnexpress
