Phnom Penh.Ministry of Tourism Supports Film Production as a Means to Promote Film Tourism, Showcase Cambodia’s Potential, and Attract International Tourists.
Phnom Penh: H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, granted an audience to Mr. Lao Sunly, Executive Producer of Bright Film Production, and his delegation, together with Canadian actor Dave Leduc, for a courtesy call and discussions, during which they presented their film production project entitled “Bokator: Guardian of Angkor” in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
During the meeting, the Executive Producer of Bright Film Production briefed H.E. the Minister on the project and sought his recommendations, support, and coordination to facilitate its smooth production and help promote Cambodian culture and tourism destinations to wider audiences.
In response, H.E. the Minister warmly welcomed and highly commended Bright Film Production for its decision to invest in Cambodia’s film industry. He expressed strong interest in the “Bokator: Guardian of Angkor” project, which has the potential to promote Cambodia’s arts, culture, national identity, and tourism destinations through film.
H.E. the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry of Tourism’s welcome and support for film production projects in Cambodia, noting that the Ministry stands ready to facilitate relevant matters within its roles and responsibilities. Regarding production procedures and content, the company is required to seek approval from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and comply with all applicable regulations.
H.E. the Minister further emphasised that the Ministry of Tourism is placing high priority on promoting film tourism as a powerful tool for showcasing Cambodia in international markets. With the high approval of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, an Inter-Ministerial Working Group for the Coordination and Promotion of Film Tourism and Night-Time Temple Visits in Cambodia has been established, chaired by the Minister of Tourism.
The Working Group’s key responsibilities include developing strategic and action plans to support film tourism; identifying and preparing potential locations for producing films, tourism songs, and commercials; promoting development and investment in the film tourism industry; and exploring incentive mechanisms to encourage film production in Cambodia.
In this regard, H.E. the Minister encouraged Bright Film Production to produce films and storytelling videos featuring Cambodia’s temples, heritage, culture, natural beauty, and potential tourism destinations, thereby presenting the country’s authentic beauty and rich diversity to international audiences.
H.E. the Minister also invited Bright Film Production to collaborate in promoting the Ministry of Tourism’s major tourism campaigns and events, particularly the “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season” campaign; the promotion of soft power through film, gastronomy, and sports tourism; night-time temple visits; international concerts; and other national and international tourism events.
